Slave to Friend

No regrets. I don’t want to look back and say to myself “I wish I would have” and I feel like that has fueled my obedience to God. I don’t want to have any regrets and I am committed to saying “yes” to whatever God asked me to do no matter how impossible it seems. The answer is always going to be yes. To say that I stand in awe over everything he is done in and through me and where he has taken me within the last couple of years is an understatement. I don’t even have words to begin to explain what has happened. I can only laugh because it’s...

this crazy life

The Craziness, Part 1: Happy Birthday America! I’ve never celebrated a holiday in another country before – and July 4th was quite the holiday to celebrate outside of the US. Like typical Americans, we went to the beach for the day! This was probably my most eventful July 4th ever. Eating authentic Guatemalan food in the rain after swimming in the ocean and getting stung by a jellyfish (don’t freak out mom, I’m fine!), surrounded by stray dogs and random chickens. That’s right, chickens. On the beach. And later that night we consumed as much pizza and soda as...

A different kind of 4th of July

Fourth of July isn’t celebrated here obviously, because it’s Guatemala. But our awesome leaders decided to plan a fun day for us. We went to the beach about an hour away from here and got to swim and eat some traditional Guatemalan food. It was so delicious! Then as if that wasn’t enough, we got domino’s for dinner! It was a nice taste of home. Finally, to top it all off we took turns hitting a pinata at the house and eating lots of candy. Anyways, it was an awesome 4th of July and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Besides our fun holiday, we have been doing...

Broken to the point of Redemption

I think it’s time to call out the truth. If we’re honest there are people in this world that aren’t easy to love. That are termed ‘Unreachable’. There are people out there that we have decided don’t deserve Gods mercy, that don’t need our time or ministry. Well newsflash…YOU don’t deserve Gods mercy. I don’t deserve it. My neighbor’s sister does not deserve and that is why Gods mercy is so beautiful. It’s time we call out the hidden places in our hearts that have determined who is worthy or more deserving. We say that...

Small Things Done with Lots of Love

The past two weeks have been a blur. We have done so many ministries, but also had a lot of free time. We have been to the special needs school, the nursing home, the park, the Children’s hospital, the garbage dump, the orphanage, and prostitute ministry.  We have also gotten to go to lots of churches here and lead a few worship songs and share testimonies.  We went to one church in the mountains and I was so encouraged by their joy for the Lord.  They danced and laughed during their worship and were so welcoming to us!  I love the joy people have here despite...

Every heart will see this hope we have in You

Everyday I grow to love Guatemala more and more; the people, the culture, the language, it's just beautiful. While we get to experience the great things of Guatemala we also get to experience the hurt and brokenness of Guatemala. Last Wednesday we got to visit the special needs school, i wasn't particularly excited to go nor was i not excited. We got there and I felt like immediately there was a kid latched onto everyone in our group except me. I stood back and watched everyone play with the kids for a few minutes and that's when a joyful, tiny, 9 year old girl...
