There is something about a hot shower, a perfectly foamed latte, and the access to peanutbutter that has the tendency to make an already great day just that much better. Alyssa and I went for a walk through Antigua yesterday and we enjoyed the absence of cat calls and the very common sighting of white, English speaking people. ( it being Holy Week brought a huge amount of Americans/ non Spanish speakers). We were aimlessly wandering and just popping into shops when they grabbed our attention. In the back of our minds, we were also on a mission to encounter some peanutbutter and Nutella as well. Our local maxi despensa in puerto barrios doesn't believe in peanutbutter apparenty. After asking for directions more than once, we encountered the super market. Walking in and perusing revealed some amazing finds! A whole shelf of peanutbutter and Nutella. Plus they have real yogurt and cheese ! Thank you Jesus.
Being here away from all the normalness of my life in California has given me an amazing appreciation for all things. May it be the rarity of a minute alone, a Internet connection faster than a turtle or ice cubes I look at all things through new eyes. It is amazing to be stripped of the things I used to consider necessities and now view them as precious blessings that God has lavished upon me. And in this it is so important to remember that I have been blessed so that I can be a blessing!
