Guat’s Up?

Month one, complete! I can't believe how fast time is flying by, it seems like yesterday I was at my house packing up my things and eating my last American meal. We have 3 weeks of ministry left here in Puerto Barrios before heading out to Antigua for debrief. Let's just say words cannot express how excited I am to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white bread, mom get ready! Living in a foreign country has been awesome but also a challenge. I've been reminded the past few days just how much I miss the small things of America. For example,...

An answer in the Silence

We are always searching. Always asking: Why? How? When? Who? What? Constantly seeking a new destination or a new answer. And more often than not we get to that point of impatience where we break. That place where we offer God an ultimatum or tell him we can’t wait anymore. That’s been me. I’ve been the girl filled with constant questions and impatience while waiting for guidance. I’ve been the beggar, the yeller, the pouter, the crier, the whiner…you name it and that’s been me…Day after day trying to find my answer. But during worship as I was...

1st things 1st- Create the Relationship

Looking back at my journal from this week, I realized I did a lot of whining and griping. I wasn’t satisfied with the amount of ministry happening (or lack thereof). I was irritated with the same questions and same answers. And there are only so many times a person can play Bananagrams with a smile. Little did I know, God was giving us those days of down time to prepare us for the days to come. God’s timing is perfect. And I’m an impatient loser. The week started with sports ministry at the park. I can’t even put into words the joy I felt when I spotted “my...

I went bar hopping

We're almost two weeks into being on the field in Guatemala. Things started off pretty slow with ministry but have started to pick up. The past few days have been my favorite. We went to an orphanage on Thursday where we got to hold the cutest babies and learn more about the work we will get to be doing there in the weeks to come. Yesterday we went to the bars and witnessed to the prostitutes. For some reason I wasn't really affected by it, I thought I was going to be upset and angry, but it's only by the grace of God I walked out of the bars with a smile on my face. I just know...

Hola a mis amigos en los Estados Unidos!!

Hola!! I have been in Guatemala for almost 2 weeks! Wow! Since I posted last week, a lot has happened as far as ministry goes. So much that I forget a lot of it! But this week we got to go to the garbage dump for the first time. Pastor Roni (who is the pastor we are working with) said around 75 families live and work there. They collect the recyclables and get paid for it. It is so sad. Lots of the children don't go to school because they have to work to earn money for their families. The first time we went there we just walked around and invited the kids to an event on Thursday that we...

Guatever….

I feel like this is where I belong…not specifically here in Guatemala but overseas missions. I LOVE every ounce of it. Like seriously.  I love meeting new people. I love learning their culture and language. I love serving with everything I have. I love being so broken only God can fill me. I love annoying itchy mosquito bites. I love having bland rice and beans with every meal. I love having little Guatemalan babies kiss me and ask me to come play with them again. I love when their parents want to get to know me. I love being the crazy christian gringos. I love being so homesick...
