Ministering in the Bars

Last Friday was the beginning of our second official week here in Guatemala and we hit the ground running. In the morining we visited a school in Puerto Barrios and had a program for them. Being there was hard because we didn’t get the response we had from the students in the school in San Manuel and it was very discouraging. We came home and had some family time to re-vamp and really prepare as a unit for  our ministry that evening. That night we went out to the bars in Puerto barrios to visit and pray with theprostitutes that worked there. We brought flowers to take with us to...

Questions for God

During prayer I find myself asking God question upon question.  I turn to Him in order to seek answers.  If I don't feel that they are answered adequately or in my own time, I continue to ask Him again and again and again.  However, God doesn't tend to work how we would like him to to work.  Earlier this week I had a revelation about questioning God.  If I lift a decision up to God for discernment and he puts peace into my heart, that should be the answer I'm looking for.  It is only when I am away from God and His word when confusion creeps in....

Black Light Disorientation

This past week we did our first prostitute ministry. I was really excited to finally be going in to the red light district to minister to those that are so close to my heart. We made cards with encouraging verses in Spanish to give to the women we met and we also got flowers to give them so they knew they were beautiful and that someone loved them. The first place we walked into was a night club. The music was blaring and it was dimly lit with black lights everywhere. There was a dancer on stage and two waiting to go on. The Pastor we were with (who has...

The Power of Prayer

Where, oh where to begin… Since I last posted, we have been involved in many different ministries. There is a local catholic church that does a church service in the park every few days. Earlier this week we went and spent time at the park with them. We played soccer (and won against the Guatemalans 2-0!) and listened to a preacher talk about the end times. We went to the Puerto Barrios market and prayed over the people there. We asked the Spirit of God to lead us to those working in the market so we could pray for them. -It is a really,...

This Everday Love

To help you all understand what is happening here in Panajachel, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into an average day for my team. In the morning, one of our four cooking teams prepare breakfast for us all.  After eating and spending some quiet time with Christ, we head out to our work projects.  We’ve been working on a few different projects which include evangelizing to a drug dealer, building a retaining wall for a family that is in danger of losing their home in the event of a mudslide, finishing a clean-water well, and digging a septic system for the mission...

Trusting God

This week we spent an afternoon at a nursing home which was refreshing to my spirit more than anything. Only a few of us on our team can speak Spanish pretty well and the barrier is something that we have learned to overcome through prayer and singing. We spent about a solid hour singing at the nursing home with the people there just praising God together in both languages, it was really really beautiful. Singing has become something that we do often as a team because it fills us all up together. This worship at the nursing home came when we needed it most too because we had spent the...
