Matthew 25:45

Hiking up the volcano in Antigua is an experience I will remember for a lifetime for two reasons. The first reason is probably what you would expect- I will remember the beauty of it, the amazing sites I saw. The second reason I will remember the volcano is something I wasn’t expecting- I will remember the children there, the children who begged us to buy a stick for five quetzals, who begged us for food and money. I have never experienced something like it. We got off the bus and we were attacked by little boys, pleading with us to buy a stick. They were selling them five quetzals,...

ALMOST AT THE HALF WAY MARK…

GOD IS SO GOOD! "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." Psalm 57:9-11 We are almost at the half way mark! On Monday we leave for midway debrief, which is in Antigua, Guatemala. It is suppose to be extremely beautiful! Cannot wait! 🙂 What God has taught me so far… It's not about me! It's not about my comfort or my happiness! It's about bringing...

Mumbo Jumbo

Buenas! First off, sorry for the lack of blog last week. I don’t know why, I just could never bring myself to write. The past two weeks have been such an emotional roller coaster. The “highest of highs and lowest of lows” as it were. Secondly, sorry in advance for the seemingly directionless-ness and mumbo jumbo of this one. I promise I’m doing my best to write with clarity while giving you a wider picture of what’s going on. Here goes....

My Friend Manuel

I met Manual the first time we went to the Children's Hospital three weeks ago. He and his sister were in the hallway of the hospital with their mother who looked emotionally and physically trained. Manual and his sister both looked like they were on the verge of death. They were extremely weak and exhausted. Manual and his sister were both suffering from intestinal problems and couldn't eat without getting sick. We prayed with them and left. The following day we had a children's program, where all the kids who were able came outside and watched my team perform skits and sing...

Top 5 Culture Shocks of Guatemala

5. What Stoplight? Somedays, crossing the street seems like you're in that old arcade game "Frog Crossing." The cars don't stop. So be prepared to run, and above all else, use caution! Also in this category, I suppose, falls one of the (many) taxi stories. This time, we made a side trip to the gas station reaching our final destination. Now, being one of those paranoid people who reads all the signs posted at each and every gas station in the states, imagine the shock and terror I felt when the first and foremost rule was not followed: the driver didn't turn off the...

El esta levantando pesas (He is lifting weights!)

This is a blog I drafted two weeks ago to share with y’all: With sweat dripping down my face, muscles straining and every fiber of my body shaking, I try to lift the weight… My friend, Walker, stands beside me laughing hysterically. I fall over, completely exhausted, and the weight crushes my foot. The crowd of kids laughs hysterically. I shake my head and limp off, as Walker tries his hardest to lift the giant load. With a grimace on his face he hoists the weight only a few inches off the ground and then falls over on his back as I, with chest swelling, laugh at his failure....
