Eyes for Blessings

There is something about a hot shower, a perfectly foamed latte, and the access to peanutbutter that has the tendency to make an already great day just that much better. Alyssa and I went for a walk through Antigua yesterday and we enjoyed the absence of cat calls and the very common sighting of  white, English speaking people. ( it being Holy Week brought a huge amount of Americans/ non Spanish speakers). We were aimlessly wandering and just popping into shops when they grabbed our attention. In the back of our minds, we were also on a mission to encounter some peanutbutter and...

To live is Christ, to die is gain

I'm learning the definition of living a life dead to this world. It stems from singing songs with old people, playing futbol with kids from the dump, playing with baby orphans, and sharing the gospel with random strangers. My life will be a life of God's faithfulness and so will yours. You need only give your heart, mind, soul, and strength to God; it's already His, so you are giving Him His just reward. I will share a quick story: Tonight on March 14th, God showed me so many things. I was created to be justified, sanctified, loved, saved, and to experience His presence full of...

Walking with Purpose

Would it be a shock for you to hear that this trip keeps changing me?:) But on second thought, it is not the trip itself. But God is using his children and new experiences as tools to mold me into His image.   To be chiseled into His image has at times been very painful. I have to confront old fears, hurt, and past experiences. But God is faithful and He has proved that He is either holding me by my right arm or He is carrying me. The Lord is burning away my self so that His joy, freedom, and fruit can take root and grow.   Recently I have been challenged to live intentionally by...

Life over here

Life in America taught me to be self sufficient. It taught me that we are what we do so we better be doing something pretty great with our lives We better be writing ourselves a pretty great story to live out and to tell.  But life here in Guatemala, with God and my lovely team, is teaching me something completely different.  For so long I have taken it upon myself to be the grower of my own spiritual fruit, the keeper of all my emotions, and the controller of how I am presenting myself to others and how they receive me. But God told me to abide in him. He directed me to John 15...

Made in His Image

As the weeks go by I am continually being immersed and challenged by new situations, concepts, and beliefs. God is challenging me everyday to live outside my comfort zone and walk with in His boldness and authority. By abiding in Christ, I can rest in the promise that He is leading me to peaceful streams in midst of battle. God has been teaching me about loving people purely, without attaching any labels to them. And that started at the garbage dump. These families live on the edge of the garbage pile, sleeping and cooking under scraps of wood, plastic, and tarps. In tattered clothes these...

A Broken Heart for a Hopeless Man

Hola? Donde? Que? Como se llama? The Spanish words are swirling through my head, every day all day here. I can never put all these foreign words together to make a reasonable sentence let alone understand what anyone is saying to me. It would be an understatement to say that I’ am beyond words frustrated with the language barrier.   One thing that doesn’t require understanding of words is seeing deep into people eyes and looking into their heart. Yesterday in the market I became haunted and forever marked by piercing eyes that I will NEVER forget.    As we walked...
